Summer Learning Journey: Day 2: Giants Among Us
I have seen Tāne Mahuta before and with my family and my cousins. We saw heaps of hail and I thought it was snow. Me and Maggie and our cousins had a hot chocolate.
My class has learnt about Kauri die back and do you know that Kauri die back is a disease and it is spreading by humans not by pests, and we need to stay on the track not on the roots, and clean your shoes before you go into the forest?
I would like to see Tāne Mahuta again because he is the Lord of the Forest and I really want to see him one more time before he dies.

It was grandparents day.
It was grandparents day at school today.
Today grandma and I did the three legged race but we weren’t very good at it and we did a gumboot throw and I sucked at it and grandma was really bad as well. There was a Tennis ball on a spoon race and my ball keep falling off and grandma’s ball stayed on. Grandma had a cup of tea and two pieces of cake and I had a piece of rice bubble cake. And we brought Rory’s nana home and Rory came over to play.

Kauri dieback Art
- First we made a blue background with dye. Second we made a Kauri trunk by finger painting with black, white, purple and green paint. Then we got pieces of paper and painted them green, yellow and white, when they were dry we ripped them up and used the pieces for the leaves. We wrote slogans for the Kauri tree art to tell people what to do in the Kauri forest. I told them not to stand on the roots.
- Help the Kauri tree live by making sure the Kauri die-back doesn't spread to all Kauri trees.
